YEREVAN. – Students from the Yerevan State University (YSU) Faculty of Armenian Philology and members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party youth association have started their regular awareness march today in the streets of Yerevan.

They are demanding the resignation of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, are going to march by state universities and urge students to join them.

The march will end near the building of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, where the Dashnaktsutyun youth continue their sit-in with the same demand.

Students from the YSU Faculties of Armenian Philology and History oppose the ministry's "Higher Education" bill, which proposes making optional at non-vocational faculties in universities the teaching of "Armenian Language" and "Armenian History" subjects that are now mandatory. They have been boycotting classes since November 6 demanding to revise this controversial point in the bill, and have also started collecting signatures.

Arayik Harutyunyan had announced that he was not going to resign.
