This legislative package proposes to toughen the penalty for pickpocketing. This is what Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia Srbuhi Galyan said during a discussion on the package of bills on making amendments and supplements to the Criminal Code and related laws in the second reading at the National Assembly today.

According to Galyan, where in the past a pickpocketer could only be brought to justice if he or she had stolen an amount exceeding AMD 5,000, now this norm is being eliminated, and pickpocketers will be brought to justice, regardless of the amount that they have stolen.

Galyan stated that the package of bills will help solve several problems. “We are trying to overcome the atmosphere of impunity, and these bills will help bring the pickpocketer to justice in all cases,” the deputy minister explained.
