The participants of the student rally in Yerevan have addressed the deputies of the Armenian parliament, particularly the deputies of the Bright Armenia and Prosperous Armenia political parties with a message in which they ask the deputies to take real steps to express lack of confidence in Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia Arayik Harutyunyan by law. The text will be given to the Members of Parliament tomorrow.

The students will also hold a picket near the government building to present their demand once again.

They will continue their demonstrations and will wait for the parliamentarians’ response with the hope that Harutyunyan will give the right evaluation of the situation and resign.

The students took drastic actions due to the bill on higher education and science, which envisages rejection of mandatory teaching of Armenian language and history in universities, dissolution of the National Academy of Sciences and significant restriction on the independence of universities. Today the lecturers of Yerevan State University held a one-day workers’ strike as a sign of solidarity with the students.
