YEREVAN. – At its session today, the Government of the Republic of Armenia approved the majority My Step parliamentary faction’s legislative initiative proposing to amend the Law on Refugees and Asylum in line with the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.

In particular, it is proposed that no criminal or administrative liability be imposed on the illegal entry into, or staying in, Armenia, of refugees as well as of asylum seekers who come to Armenia from a territory where their lives or freedom are endangered, or are entering into or are staying Armenia without authorization, provided that they report to the competent authorities of Armenia, and indicate a valid reason for their illegal entry or stay in the country.
