YEREVAN. – At its session today, the Armenian government made a decision to amend the Law on State Duty, which stipulates that the “air tax” will be lifted for flights toward new destinations that have not been served in the last 12 months.

Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan presented the issue.

"As a result of this decision, we have at present one airline that has made decisions to operate Yerevan and Gyumri flights," Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in his turn. “[But] the exemption applies to everyone. We invite all airlines to come and make use of these same conditions.

This will have an impact on the pricing of airline tickets and the development of economic activity, in general."

"In total, we have eight approved new destinations," Tatevik Revazian, Chair of the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia, said, for her part. "But we expect there will be more than ten before the summer season opens."

Suren Papikyan added that there is also interest from local airlines in ten new directions.

"If all this becomes a reality, it will be a revolution in the field of air transport," the prime minister concluded.
