YEREVAN. – According to the draft state budget of 2020, more than 48 million drams have been envisioned for the program "Teaching Armenian and Armenian Studies in Foreign Countries."

The respective statement issued by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports says that Gevorg Gorgisyan, MP of the National Assembly’s opposition Bright Armenia faction, stated in his speech today that the funding envisioned for "provision of scholarships for training academics in the field of Armenology" and "organization of teaching Armenian language in foreign universities" was not included in the draft 2020 state budget.

As per the ministry statement this information is not true. The aforesaid activities in the framework of budgeting for 2020 were presented under the program "Teaching Armenian and Armenian Studies in Foreign Countries," and over 48 million drams are envisioned for this program. Thus, the funding has doubled compared to the 2019 budget (24 million drams for 2019).

Moreover, in addition to the existing universities (Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Charles University in Prague, University of Bucharest, and University of Salzburg), the program will also be implemented at Cairo University.
