On the last day of their visit to Washington, the Armenian parliamentary delegation met with former US ambassadors to Armenia John Heffern, John Evans and Michael Lemmon, Voice of America reported.

During the meeting, US retired diplomats were particularly interested in the systemic reforms being undertaken by the new Armenian authorities.

According to My Step faction MP Tatevik Hayrapetyan, it was very important to see that the ambassadors were not only happy with the changes and developments in Armenia, but also clearly stated that the attitude towards Armenia in America has also changed. Armenia now has different perceptions and a different level of recognition, she added.

Former ambassadors, who closely followed developments in Armenia during their tenure in Yerevan, were particularly interested in the role of the parliament in the new conditions and the planned reforms.

Birght Armenia party leader Edmon Marukyan, noted that work is being done in the parliament to balance the parliamentary means inherited from the former authorities with the current executive. Delegation head Lilit Makunts, in her turn, said that the development of the new electoral code would be completed in 2020.

This was the first visit by members of the Armenian-American parliamentary group to the US of the new parliament elected after the velvet revolution.
