A citizen of Georgia, one of the key ISIS leaders, nicknamed Al Bara Shishani, was detained in the Kyiv region of Ukraine, NY Times reported.

They conducted an operation to detain a terrorist in collaboration with the US Central Intelligence Agency and the Georgian Ministry of the Interior.

It is known that since 2012, the detainee fought in the ranks of a terrorist group in Syria and was the closest ally of Tarkhan Batirashvili, known as Abu Omar al-Shishani.

Field commander Tarkhan Batirashvili came from the Pankisi Gorge of Georgia.

He joined ISIS in 2015 and was the deputy to Abu Omar al-Shishani, who was killed in combat in 2016.

After his death, Al Bara Shishani crossed into Turkey and later Ukraine where he continued to coordinate the activities of Islamic State, the SBU statement said.
