The United Nations has warned that violence in Bolivia could "spin out of control," Reuters reports.

UN concern is over the rising number of casualties between supporters of former President Evo Morales and security forces. According to the latest data, 9 people were killed so far.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet warned escalating violence could usurp the democratic process.

“I am concerned that the situation in Bolivia could spin out of control if the authorities do not handle it ... with full respect for human rights,” Bachelet said in a statement.

Mexican authorities have granted Evo Morales political asylum.
