Local authorities regretted the approval by the US Senate of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.

According to them, such acts are redundant and inadmissible, TASS reported.

Any unilateral changes in the economic and trade policy of the US with respect to Hong Kong will have a negative impact on bilateral relations and harm our own American interests, they said in a statement.

They noted that 85 thousand American citizens and businessmen settled in the metropolis, 1,344 companies from the US operate, 278 of which have regional headquarters here.

No foreign legislative bodies should in any way interfere in the internal affairs of Hong Kong, the representative of local authorities noted.

The Senate on Tuesday unanimously approved the so-called act, requiring the US administration to regularly report to lawmakers on the situation in Hong Kong and providing for the possibility of imposing sanctions on those responsible, according to Washington, for human rights violations in this autonomous region.

In early summer, mass protests began in Hong Kong against the authorities' intention to pass an extradition bill that allowed extradition to mainland China. Despite the recall of the bill, opposition youth supporters express their willingness to continue anti-government protests. They are accompanied by violence, blocking roads, arson and acts of vandalism.
