YEREVAN. – The students at Yerevan State University (YSU) Faculty of Armenian Philology marched to the YSU main building and handed a petition letter to the YSU Reception worker.

One student at the faculty noted that they were returning to classes until Saturday. "We were promised that they would scan and send the petition letter during the day," the student said. "During this time, we will continue to be active in the field of information, meet with members of the Academic Council and those interested in the issue."

These students, who have been boycotting classes since November 6 in protest against the bill on Higher Education and Science, had gathered today at their faculty building, from where they marched to the YSU main building to hand petition letters to the YSU acting rector and members of the Academic Council.

Then the students will suspend for 3 days their boycotting of classes.

After receiving a response to their petitions, they will make a final decision on the boycotting of classes.

Under the controversial bill, it is proposed to make "Armenian Language", "Armenian Literature", and "Armenian History" subjects non-mandatory at non-specialized faculties. The lecturers had joined the students' protest, and three days ago they discussed their complaints with Education, Science, Culture and Sport Minister Arayik Harutyunyan.

Meanwhile, members of the ARF Youth Union continue their sit-in near the Education, Science, Culture and Sport Ministry building demanding Harutyunyan's resignation.
