Within the framework of the session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Assembly’s plenary session taking place in Saint Petersburg, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan today met with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, reports the news department of the National Assembly.

Greeting Ararat Mirzoyan, with satisfaction, Valentina Matviyenko stated that Russian-Armenian relations are actively growing and emphasized that they are growing not only in the bilateral format, but also within the scope of the Eurasian Economic Union. Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Valentina Matviyenko attached importance to the dialogue between the sides and the absence of aggressive rhetoric.

In his speech, the Speaker of the National Assembly stated that interparliamentary relations contribute to the active dynamics of the federal relations between Russia and Armenia. Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ararat Mirzoyan reaffirmed Armenia’s position on the peaceful settlement of the conflict within the scope of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. The parliamentary speaker also touched upon the statement by the Prime Minister of Armenia that the resolution of the conflict must be acceptable for the peoples of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan and attached importance to the fact that Azerbaijan should also make such a statement.

The parties touched upon the cooperation of the parliamentarians of the two countries at the platform of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and interparliamentary platform and agreed that Valentina Matviyenko would pay an official visit to Armenia next year.
