YEREVAN. – The visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Italy did not stand out with the meetings with senior officials, and therefore it would be quite difficult to say that this visit was quite effective and was not limited to ordinary walks. Analyst Mihrdat Madatyan said this at a press conference today.

According to him, that meeting was another manifestation of populism.

"This man [Nikol Pashinyan] has been told so often that he is a 'savior' that Pashinyan himself has begun to identify himself with Christ," Madatyan said. “As a result, in his speech, he actually identified himself with Christ. Here, of course, we are talking about the contradiction between the campaign of the benefactor and the ‘spreading [criminals] on the asphalt and putting [them] against the wall.’’

Referring to the incident of the Azerbaijani "blogger" at the Armenian church in Milan, the analyst noted that it was obvious that this Azerbaijani was not the person who he was trying to present himself as.

"I don't think the security staff of the Armenian Prime Minister was so weak that the 'blogger' came on his own and went in freely," the analyst emphasized. "I think this was informed in advance." He added that such “success” of this Azerbaijani "blogger" is also dictated by the Prime Minister's desire to seek the help of the same populism.

According to Madatyan, it is noteworthy that Pashinyan had to respond to the Azerbaijani’s accusations by listing the successes achieved by former Armenian President Robert Kaocharyan and second President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Arkadi Ghukasyan, who made their direct contribution to the formation of the independent NKR.
