The Armenian government intends to introduce monitoring mechanisms for the trustworthiness of the authorities, which will increase public confidence in both the judiciary and other state structures, said Armenian justice minister on Monday.

According to him, if the government had taken the same position as the Constitutional Court judge Vahe Grigoryan, nominated for this position by the current government, they would have begun to implement the sequential steps proposed earlier in the letter by Grigoryan.

The government should have appointed a new chair of the Constitutional Court, but this did not happen.

“Neither earlier nor today did the government express such an intention, which implies that we, of course, do not agree with this position,” he said.

When asked whether there would be members in the Constitutional Court or whether judges would still remain, the minister noted that the legislative package he submitted referred to the fact that judges of the Constitutional Court could go on early retirement.
