The ruling My Step bloc unexpectedly opposed the bill submitted, said Bright Armenia part head Edmon Marukyan at the Armenian parliament on Tuesday during the discussion of the bill on politicizing the posts of Armenian National Security Service head and police chief.

According to him, the ruling bloc MPs were possibly initially opposed to the bill, since they did not take into account any of their proposals.

Thus, Marukyan noted that they agreed with the proposal to appoint persons from the Defense Ministry to these posts, but it was necessary to conduct joint discussions with the participation of senior representatives of the National Security Service, the Police, the Parliament and the Defense Ministry.

The bill was earlier submitted by the Bright Armenia faction. According to the bill, persons aged 25 years and above who had not previously worked in law enforcement agencies could be appointed to the above positions.

This legislative initiative caused an ambiguous reaction both among the deputies from the Prosperous Armenia party and in the Armenian society, as well as among the expert community.
