Russia and Azerbaijan are developing bilateral military-technical cooperation in full compliance with international law, taking into account the balance necessary to maintain stability in the region, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

His remarks came commenting on Armenian Prime Minister’s statement that the CSTO member states should prevent Azerbaijan from acquiring weapons to prevent a possible escalation of the Karabakh conflict, TASS reported.

According to him, military-technical cooperation is one of the important areas of the Russian-Azerbaijani strategic partnership.

“We are developing this cooperation in an absolutely transparent manner, in full compliance with international law and taking full account of the balance that has developed in this region and which is important to maintain stability here,” he said.

Earlier, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at the CSTO summit in Bishkek, called on the member states not to sell weapons to Azerbaijan.
