Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov hopes for certain progress in the talks over the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict after the meeting with his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan in Bratislava, reports Interfax-Azerbaijan.

“The status-quo doesn’t favor anyone. The Co-Chairs stress this in every statement. It is necessary to find a solution,” Mammadyarov said during the press conference held after his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

Mammadyarov also commented on Mnatsakanyan’s statement that the status and security of Karabakh will be discussed during the meeting. “Everything is clear in regard to the status. The people need to get back to their normal lives. As far as security is concerned, the Armenians and Azerbaijanis have different perceptions of security. Yes, security is important, but it is also important for Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani population in Karabakh. The refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh need to get back to their normal lives. Azerbaijan has addressed the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to prepare a report on assessment of the situation and the solution to the security issue. This requires serious and subject-oriented talks, and I believe tomorrow we will start those new subject-oriented talks,” Mammadyarov declared.

Yesterday, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan declared that a complex of issues related to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict would be discussed during the upcoming meeting in Bratislava. He also stated that there is a package of issues concerning the settlement and the atmosphere in which the process is unfolding. “Armenia’s position is clear. Our priorities are the security of Nagorno-Karabakh and its status,” the minister said.
