The first step in resolving the Karabakh conflict should be the elimination of its main consequences, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, speaking about his meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan.

According to him, his meeting with Mnatsakanyan lasted three and a half hours, Trend reported.

These were pretty tough negotiations, he said adding that they have unresolved issues.

They discussed with the OSCE Minsk Group a phased approach to resolving the conflict and, according to him, the first step should be the elimination of the main consequences of the conflict, that is, ensuring the immediate, absolute and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the Karabakh region and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as recorded in four resolutions of the UN Security Council.
