At least 50 people died Friday night in Baghdad as a result of an attack by armed people on protesters, TASS reported referring to Al Arabiya TV channel.

A group of armed people in civilian cars came up to the square and opened fire firing at the protesters. The shooting lasted several hours. It is known that the security forces, which have repeatedly been accused of using weapons against demonstrators, are not involved.

This attack became one of the most bloody since October 1 when protests against difficult social and economic conditions of life kicked off in Iraq.
