Twenty eight percent of the population smokes in Armenia for 2016-2017 according to the World Health Organization, said Armenian Deputy Health Minister Lena Nanushyan on Monday.

According to her, the number of male smokers among the adult population is about 52%, and women - 2-3%.

“Over half of those surveyed said they were exposed to indirect smoking at home, while 21% of women and 32% of men were exposed to indirect smoking at work. It was also recorded that 70% of pregnant women are exposed to second-hand smoke every day,” she said.

The draft bill provides for a ban on tobacco use indoors. Restrictions will be imposed on smoking in public transport, playgrounds, hospitals, clinics and medical centers, in educational and cultural institutions.

There are certain rules for the sale of tobacco, as well as restrictions on the advertising of tobacco products.
