The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was an important event, but there is no need to talk about positive shifts in relations between the two countries, said Russian president's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

According to him, it’s another matter that so far there is no need to talk about any positive changes in our bilateral relations, TASS reported.

“But such contacts are important," Peskov added.

US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held talks in Washington with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday.

The American side noted a number of areas in which countries have opportunities to improve relations. Washington also noted disagreements with Moscow. Lavrov noted Trump is aware of the benefits of good relations with Russia, but in the US there are forces that do not share this point of view and interfere with the establishment of contacts between the two countries.
