Even in a nightmare I wouldn’t imagine that George Orwell’s novel “1984” would become a reality in the 21st century independent Armenia. This is what President of Helsinki Committee of Armenia NGO Avetik Ishkhanyan wrote on his Facebook page.
He particularly wrote the following:
“GEORGE ORWELL: “1984”
A while ago, I found out that the glorious National Assembly of Armenia adopted a law in the first reading that will provide the Police Service adjunct to the Prime Minister of Armenia with the opportunity to wiretap the “proud” citizens of Armenia. Let’s leave aside the lyricism under the name of “fight against crimes” and fundamental human rights (personal life, opinion, etc.). Even in a nightmare I wouldn’t imagine that George Orwell’s novel “1984” would become a reality in the 21st century independent Armenia.”
