YEREVAN. – One airline has applied to the Civil Aviation Committee, and studies are currently underway. If all goes well, we will have a local carrier with 388,000 seats. Tatevik Revazian, Chair of the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia, stated this during a press conference today, but adding that she cannot say anything more at this moment.

Referring to the Gyumri airport, Revazian noted that it is a fact that it is a secondary, and the city is not yet so vibrant in terms of tourism that airlines are queuing up and wanting to fly to Gyumri. "That's why we are providing other incentives for Gyumri to develop and airlines want to fly from Gyumri," Revazian said. “Only Pobeda airline has implemented flights from Gyumri in one direction—to Russia; there was no other option. Now Ryanair is flying, too; Wizz Air may [also] fly from Gyumri in the future.”

She added that they did not even mention Zvartnots airport of Yerevan during their presentations in Europe, but emphasized Gyumri airport.
