Today deputies of the National Assembly talked quite a lot about the rules that all deputies have to follow. This is what head of the My Step faction of the National Assembly Lilit Makunts told reporters today as she touched upon the tension in the National Assembly and the speeches targeted against the government and the opposition.

As for the fact that the My Step faction led the establishment of a parliamentary probe committee to explore the corruption risks at Yerevan Municipality to failure, Makunts said the following: “We didn’t make a political decision. We made a reference to certain provisions of the law and made a decision that was exclusively legal,” she said.

When asked if it was true that Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan had called the faction and asked it to find a way out of the situation and prohibit the establishment of a probe committee, Makunts gave a negative response and said the following: “Our faction does everything it can to make sure all of our actions are transparent. We have always been ready to pay heed to all the initiatives of the opposition, including the creation of probe committees. In this case, the Council of Elders has jurisdiction.”

Makunts also declared that to be the opposition doesn’t mean to cause uproar. “I believe the opposition has to be more revolutionary than our team that established a government through a revolution, and it has to raise the bar of political discourse and political culture,” she said.
