The agenda and vision for reforms within the Police of Armenia were considered during a consultation convened by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today.

In the beginning, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated the following about the topic: “Overall, police reforms have been on our government’s agenda since its formation, and I believe this is one of our major issues today. I must state the fact that, overall, the police have met and continue to meet their objectives after the non-violent, velvet and people’s revolution that took place in Armenia in 2018, but we must all state that, in the new public and political realities, we need new police within the contextual meaning of the word. Generally speaking, the major goal of this process must be to establish new relations between police and citizens.

We have held various discussions and considered various models, but in general, I believe the conclusion is that we need to refrain from taking piecemeal steps in the case of police and other cases, and all of our actions must be strategic.”

Issues related to the main directions for police reforms, the course of development of the strategy and implementation of that strategy were considered and international cooperation was touched upon during the consultation.
