Iranian FM Muhammad Javad Zarif rejected the possibility of a bilateral meeting between Iran and the United States, Mehr reported

“President Donald Trump is still dreaming about a bilateral meeting—to satisfy HIS lust for a "Trump deal". It’s wishful thinking,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

Zarif added that “the only possible venue for talks is at the P5+1 table—which HE left—reverting to pre-2017, AND compensating Iran for damages.”

This tweet followed Zarif's earlier statement in which he ridiculed Trump for rejecting what he mistakenly interpreted as Zarif's call for bilateral talks with Washington, subject to the lifting of US sanctions against Iran.

Zarif urged Trump to base his foreign policy decisions on facts, and not on biased news headlines from his beloved right-wing Fox News channel or his Farsi translators.

Zarif responded in this way to Trump’s tweet written in Farsi and English, where the latter noted that the Iranian FM wants to negotiate with Washington and lift the sanctions.

Earlier in an interview with Der Spiegel, Zarif said the Trump administration should first lift the sanctions that it imposed on Iran after leaving the nuclear deal, and then return to the negotiating table.
