Initiatives proposed by the US Presidential Administration Donald Trump to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are contrary to international law and do not contribute to peace in the Middle East, Human rights organization Amnesty International reported.

“While the Trump administration has emphasized the principle of land swaps in its deal, we should make no mistake that it is proposing further annexation of Palestinian territory, which would flagrantly violate international humanitarian law. During more than half a century of occupation Israel has imposed a system of institutionalized discrimination against Palestinians under its rule, denying them basic rights and access to effective remedies for violations. The deal amounts to endorsement of these brutal, unlawful policies,” said Philip Luther, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Research and Advocacy Director.

Amnesty International called on the international community to reject the initiative of the American leader.

On January 28, Trump announced the key provisions of the so-called deal of the century - a plan for a Palestinian-Israeli peace settlement. These included recognition of Israeli sovereignty over Jewish settlements that had already appeared on Palestinian territory, as well as the refusal of the Arab state to wage war. Washington proposed to make indivisible Jerusalem the capital of Israel, and East Jerusalem to be the capital of Palestine.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu supported the initiative and expressed readiness for the immediate start of peace talks. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and representatives of the Hamas radical movement, meanwhile, strongly rejected the proposals of the US president.
