The tourism industry in the EU suffers losses due to the spread of the coronavirus in the world, especially in China, where most travelers came from.

According to Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for Internal Market, losses amounted to € 1 billion on January alone, TASS reported.

Since January, the European tourism sector has missed 2 million travelers, which means a loss of € 1 billion per month, he said noting that there was a shortage of Chinese tourists flow.

Breton said that Italian authorities have allocated more than € 3 billion to support the northern regions of the country, the most affected by the epidemic and the subsequent restrictive measures, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises. According to him, due to the spread of the coronavirus, the economy of Italy and Germany may enter a recession.
