The agreement between Turkey and Russia on Idlib has allowed to temporarily stabilize the situation in northwestern Syria, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

His remarks came at a meeting of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Justice and Development party, Anadolu reported.

It is too early to declare a long-term peace in Idlib, Erdogan said noting there have been some attempts to violate the ceasefire in Syria. Ankara informs the Russian side about the latest developments and hopes to take measures under the agreements reached, he said.

According to him, Turkey is closely monitoring the movement of forces and supporters of President Bashar al-Assad on the contact line in northwestern Syria. Ankara is ready to fully fulfill its obligations on Syria, Erdogan noted adding if the other side tries to break the agreement, Turkey’s blow will be much tougher.

All 12 observation posts of the Turkish Armed Forces continue to operate in northwestern Syria, the Turkish leader added.
