The EU will soon extend sanctions against Syria, despite the COVID-19 pandemic in the Arab Republic, a senior EU representative told reporters.

According to him, the extension of the sanctions will send a strong signal that the current course with violence, an aggravation of the humanitarian situation, and the use of chemical weapons is absolutely unacceptable, TASS reported.

As Syrian Health Minister Nizar Yazigi said earlier, speaking at the 73rd World Health Assembly, the fight against COVID-19 in the country is hampered by the brutal and unfair sanctions imposed by the US and the EU against Damascus.
