The head of the Department of Public Relations and Media of the Police of Armenia told Armenian News-NEWS.am that, as of May 27, a record on administrative offenses has been drawn up in regard to 20 of the participants of the protest held in Kapan on May 24.

On May 24, the situation in Kapan intensified after several citizens of Kajaran (located in Armenia's Syunik Province) gathered in front of the police station with the demand to not transport their fellow citizens to Yerevan who were apprehended and then detained and to release them. According to information provided by the relatives gathered in front of the police station, the detained citizens had been exposed to violence at the police station. The police refuted the information about exposure to violence. There were three apprehended citizens, and one of them, Nver Khachatryan, had been apprehended by mistake and later released with bruises on his body. The gathered citizens demanded that the arrestees not be transported to Yerevan and that the investigation be conducted in Syunik Province since they feared that the arrestees would be beaten more brutally in Yerevan. They demanded that they would close the roads and take extreme measures. Mayor of Kajaran Manvel Paramazyan declared that the actions were political persecution against him, that the police had conducted searches in his apartment and the apartments of his close ones, after which they had detained citizens of Kajaran for no reason and had used violence against them.
