YEREVAN. – In 2019, the number of deaths and falling of servicemen in Armenia and Artsakh decreased from 63 down to 49. Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan stated this at Monday’s sitting of the National Assembly of Armenia while presenting the report on the activities of the Prosecutor's Office in the year past.

According to him, only 20 of the 49 deaths of these servicemen were related to the military service, whereas the reasons for the 29 deaths were different. According to him, in 2018, there were 63 deaths of servicemen, 38 of which were related to military service.

"The number of deaths due to shootings by the Azerbaijani side has almost halved, the number of suicides—including the cases of causing suicide—has decreased by a third," Davtyan said.

At the same time, he stressed that in 2020, the fight against criminal subculture in the army is one of the priorities of the military police.
