YEREVAN. – At Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, the government of Armenia decided to set the amount of water intake from Lake Sevan to up to 170 million cubic meters during the 2020 irrigation period.

The explanation of the decision states that the adoption of this draft is conditioned by the need to partially mitigate the shortage of irrigation water supply.

Thus, the shortage between the calculated irrigation water demand and the possible water supply is about 50 million cubic meters, where possible changes in summer weather conditions were not taken into account.

The organizations supplying irrigation water were instructed to study the possibilities of water supply from alternative water sources to mitigate the aforesaid shortage.
