Spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Shushan Stepanyan posted the following on her Facebook page:

“This is the new military base in the northeastern border zone.

The location wasn’t selected by chance — the intelligence, engineering and other services conducted a relevant inspection of the location and decided that this place was appropriate for establishing a new military base. A couple of years ago, it was in this section of the border zone that the adversary performed a sabotage operation, as a result of which the Armenian side suffered major casualties.

The new military base has helped create new opportunities. It is in an upper zone and has a dominant position for leading battles more effectively. A couple of military positions of the adversary are in our viewing field.

Currently, we have more resources for monitoring and overseeing and for striking. In practice, in this location, the adversary can no longer undertake serious actions. If it does, the punishment will be very strict. This is exactly why this military base at the military unit is referred to as ‘punitive’.”
