YEREVAN. – The Criminal Court of Appeal has granted the appeal by the Prosecutor General and acquitted Isahak Malkhasyan, who was convicted along the lines of the criminal case in connection with the events that occurred in Yerevan in March 2008, after the presidential election. Gor Abrahamyan, Adviser to the Prosecutor General, wrote about this on his Facebook page on Saturday.

In particular, he noted that with a first-instance court decision on June 16, 2008, Malkhasyan was found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison; but this sentence was commuted to one-year probation.

An investigation by the Prosecutor General's Office, however, found that the court of first instance had had committed fundamental violations while making its indictment on this case.

So, Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan appealed to the Criminal Court of Appeal, requesting that the ruling on Malkhasyan be overturned and that he be found not guilty of the charges against him.

And the Criminal Court of Appeal on Friday granted the Prosecutor General's appeal.
