UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on Israel to drop plans to annex part of Palestinian territories, CBC reported.

"If implemented, annexation would constitute a most serious violation of international law, grievously harm the prospect of a two-state solution and undercut the possibilities of a renewal of negotiations," Guterres told the UN Security Council. "I call on the Israeli government to abandon its annexation plans."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to annex Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley that are currently home to as many as 500,000 Israeli settlers.

On July 1 Netanyahu will start this process.
