YEREVAN. – The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan has granted the motion to extend for two months the detention of Gagik Khachatryan, former Chairman of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) and ex-Minister of Finance of Armenia.

Khachatryan's lawyer Yerem Sargsyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am the court does not take into account the fact that his client has a health problem, and therefore cannot remain in custody.

"A medical intervention is needed, which is not carried out in Armenia," the attorney said, in particular.

Gagik Khachatryan is charged with abuse of official powers and wasting of large sums of money. The charges concern the alleged crimes committed during his tenure as the SRC chief. Khachatryan was detained on August 27, 2019, and was arrested three days later.
