President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian today held phone talks with President of Latvia Egils Levits.

The two presidents exchanged information about the current coronavirus situation in their respective countries and their countries’ experiences in preventing and overcoming the virus.

President Sarkissian attached importance to Latvia’s support to the EU-Armenia partnership and emphasized the new opportunities for cooperation within the scope of the EU Eastern Partnership. He also praised the fact that Latvia is one of the first EU states to ratify the Republic of Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

Talking about the prospects for the Armenian-Latvian cooperation, the presidents emphasized that both countries have serious potential for cooperation in various sectors. President Levits highlighted Latvia’s interest in the projects targeted at the development of the IT sector in Armenia, particularly the ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) presidential initiative. The interlocutors also exchanged views on the food safety ‘corridor’ and Latvia’s possible participation.
