An international charity organization Oxfam has published a report - The Hunger Virus - and has warned that the COVID-19 pandemic could kill more people through hunger than the disease itself, Sky News reported.

According to a bleak scenario outlined in its report, as many as 12,000 people could die per day.

As the report noted, the 10 hunger hotspots include Afghanistan, Syria, and South Sudan.

Armed conflicts and the weak economies of these countries have already become the cause of the humanitarian crisis; now, an additional threat to the population has become a difficulty and inability to deliver humanitarian aid due to disrupted international communications.

Over 12 million COVID-19 cases have been reported globally.

According to worldometers.info, the death toll has exceeded 550,000, and over 7,000,000 patients have already recovered.

The United States leads in the absolute number of confirmed cases, leaving behind Brazil, and India.

Qatar, San Marino, French Guiana are the first three countries in the number of COVID-19 cases per one million inhabitants. Armenia ranks ninth in this regard.

What comes to mortality stats, the highest number of deaths was recorded in the US, but San Marino leads in the number of deaths per million people.
