The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection fined Gazprom 213 million zlotys (€ 50 million), the antimonopoly office noted.

The reason for the imposition of such a large fine was the refusal of Gazprom to provide the office with the data requested by the regulator on the contracts concluded by its subsidiary Nord Stream 2 with European companies financing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. In November 2019, the French company Engie was fined for persistent and unjustified refusal to provide the requested documents regarding participation in the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline construction project for PLN 172 million.

Despite the legal obligation to cooperate with the chairman of the office, the company did not provide the necessary information also after the initiation of a case in May due to the lack of cooperation, which should have been a warning signal for the company, the office head Tomasz Khrustny noted.

The office said in a statement that Gazprom had no intention of transferring the requested contracts for the transmission, distribution, sale, supply and storage of gas to Poland.
