Taking into consideration geographical features, Armenia must either constantly change its air forces, if we’re talking about SU30SMs, or upgrade them, if we’re talking about Su-25. This is what Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov said during the Moscow-Yerevan teleconference today.

According to him, the Su-30SM is universal and allows to restrain the adversary’s troops in distant entrances, but it’s clear that it’s necessary to increase the number of Su-30SMs and purchase 8 more jets. Besides technical rearmament, what is also important is close cooperation with Moscow.

“In case of a real danger, it will be hard for Armenia to counterattack alone, and the allied agreements with Russia can create an additional defensive force,” Leonkov said.

As far as the upgrading and repair of Su-25 are concerned, honorable military pilot of the Russian Federation Vladimir Popov said such resources can help solve a wide range of issues, taking into consideration the fact that the Su-25 is capable of creating the effect of a high-precision weapon.

On August 24, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and the Russian United Aircraft Corporation signed an agreement on upgrading and repairing Su-25s on the sidelines of the “Army-2020” International Military and Technical Forum. The continuity of purchase of Su-30SMs is under consideration.
