YEREVAN. – At Tuesday's session, the Yerevan Council of the Elders agreed to install a monument dedicated to the casualties of the March 1, 2008 tragedy in the city.

The reasoning behind this decision states, in particular, that the need for this decision is due to the need to perpetuate the memory of these casualties.

The Armenian government has allocated 2 million drams to Yerevan for the design of this monument.

And sculptor Albert Vardanyan's  model was recognized as the winner of the open competition for the design of this monument.

During Tuesday’s discussion of the matter, the Yerevan municipal council members observed a minute of silence in honor of these casualties.
