Minister of Defense of Armenia, Chairman of the Commission on Captives, Hostage and Missing Persons Davit Tonoyan today received Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Armenia Claire Meytraud, as reported the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.

During the meeting, Tonoyan touched upon the videos devoted to Gurgen Alaverdyan and circulated by Azerbaijani presses and expressed the concern of the Ministry of Defense about the content of those videos. The defense minister stated that the obstruction of the Azerbaijani authorities to permit the visit of representatives of the Office of the ICRC in Baku to visit Gurgen Alaverdyan is a gross violation of internationally stipulated rights, particularly the commitments assumed by Azerbaijan within the scope of international humanitarian law.

Tonoyan also thanked Meytraud for the efforts made by the Delegation to protect the rights of prisoners of war and civilians who are under the jurisdiction of Azerbajian.

In her turn, Meytraud assured that the ICRC Delegation is taking all the necessary steps to ensure the procedures arising from the statuses of Gurgen Alaverdyan and Armenians who are located on the Azerbaijani side.

The interlocutors also discussed the activities for assessment of the level of integration of international humanitarian law in the Armed Forces of Armenia.
