Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has stated that he does not rule out the possibility of a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Moscow. However, Aliyev noted that he had not received an invitation to visit Russia from President Vladimir Putin, Japanese Nikkei newspaper reports.

"Of course, it [a meeting] is possible. These kinds of meetings happened before. It depends on what will be the agenda of this kind of meeting. Because with this Armenian government, unfortunately, the prospect for a peaceful settlement is very remote," Aliyev said in an interview with Nikkei.

"I have been invited many times by President Putin and visited Moscow many times. Some years, even several times a year. President Putin also visited Azerbaijan many times," he added.

According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan will never agree to the holding of a referendum on the self-determination of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Azerbaijani president noted that he was not against the deployment of observers and peacekeepers in Karabakh, but added that Baku will posit its respective conditions when that time comes.
