Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan says he is ready to meet with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, but preconditions are necessary for the effectiveness of their meeting.

“There has not been an official invitation, but this is how I see it — both Aliyev and I have affirmed our willingness to meet and try to achieve a diplomatic solution to this situation. Of course, I am ready, but preconditions are necessary for the effectiveness of the meeting,” he told Interfax, adding that the meeting may take place in Moscow.

Asked about the conditions of substantive negotiations and what substantive negotiations are from Yerevan’s perspective, Pashinyan said it means an ultimate resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. Asked to clarify if this means Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence or its unification with Armenia, the Prime Minister said the following: “It is the exercise by the people of Nagorno-Karabakh of their right to self-determination and the protection of that right.”
