Militia will be formed in Armenia on a territorial basis. At Wednesday's special sitting of the National Assembly, the MPs passed—in the second and final reading—the package of bills on respective amendments to the Law on Defense and related laws.

During the voting, 67 deputies unanimously supported this legislative initiative.

Thus, in the event of hostilities or their threat in Armenia, the militia shall assist the regular army of the country.

This militia will also take part in the armed protection of important roads, as well as in civil defense.

Joining the militia shall be voluntary. But its members shall not be members of the military, police, rescuers, or other law enforcement officers, as during a war, they will be assigned certain responsibilities.

The militia shall be given weapons and uniforms.

The training of the militia shall be carried out during mobilizations.

And the brigades and battalions of militia shall be formed according to territories.
