The Armenian Supreme Spiritual Council, chaired by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, on Thursday issued a statement with respect to Azerbaijan’s military aggression against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The statement reads as follows in particular:

"For these atrocities committed against the people of Artsakh, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as other military-political figures who support and directly participate in these atrocities must be brought before international court instances and held accountable as organizers of crimes against humanity.

The Supreme Spiritual Council calls on the international community, in particular the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing countries, in adherence to the principles of peaceful settlement of the [Karabakh] conflict, to take more practical, effective and decisive measures to stop the bloodshed, restore peace in the region, and for exercising Artsakh Armenians’ right to self-determination, and, simply, for people’s right to life, to live.

Azerbaijan's policy of resolving the Artsakh issue by military means, annihilating the Armenians of Artsakh once again proves the fact that there can be no guarantee of security for Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan.

Today Artsakh needs humanitarian assistance from all over the world.”
