During the “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” show, President of Russia Vladimir Putin thoroughly explained why Russia didn’t provide direct military aid to Armenia as a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), MKRU reported.

Putin explained that Azerbaijan had launched the war against Nagorno-Karabakh and the battles took place in that territory, but Yerevan never recognized Nagorno-Karabakh.

“From the perspective of international law, this means that Nagorno-Karabakh and its territory have been and still are a part of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” Putin stated, adding that since there was no military aggression against the territory of Armenia, Russia and the CSTO weren’t entitled to be involved in the conflict.

As far as the military-technical cooperation with Yerevan is concerned, Armenia received the necessary support. Moscow did everything possible to make sure Armenia didn’t feel abandoned and forgotten.”

Putin also emphasized that Yerevan had an opportunity to sign a ceasefire agreement back in October. Putin had convinced Aliyev to stop the war, but Pashinyan claimed that the hostilities needed to continue. All this led to the seizure by Azerbaijani troops of Shushi, and this paved the way to Stepanakert.
