During its session, the Council of the National Assembly of Armenia decided to apply to the Constitutional Court to terminate the parliamentary powers of leader of the Prosperous Armenia faction Gagik Tsarukyan, the faction’s MP Arman Abovyan told reporters today.

“This is clearly a political decision. The Council voted in favor so that it can forward the motion to the Constitutional Court to strip Tsarukyan of parliamentary mandate. This is clearly political persecution. The factors and provisions that the chairperson of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption stated were so absurd and didn’t concern the main processes at all,” Arman Abovyan stated.

The Council of the National Assembly has applied to the Constitutional Court to terminate the powers of Gagik Tsarukyan, taking as a basis Article 95 of the Constitution which prohibits a deputy from being involved in entrepreneurial activities and hold a position within commercial organizations.

The Council’s decision is based on the well-known opinion of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption.
