Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations blamed state terrorism for the assassination of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, and said that Iran won’t ever shy away from deterring aggression, or from protecting its people, Iran Press reported.

In response to the assassination of Fakhrizadeh on Friday evening, Iranian envoy to the UN, Majid Takht Ravanchi, said: "What was clearly a state-sponsored assassination of our prominent scientist was also a clear violation of international law, designed to wreak havoc on our region."

Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations stressed that the move should be condemned by the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Research and Innovation Organization of the Ministry of Defense, was assassinated on Friday afternoon local time in Damavand, Tehran Province, by unknown individuals during an armed conflict with his bodyguards.

Earlier, Iranian officials condemned the assassination of the Iranian scientist, and promised a severe punishment awaits those perpetrators in this act.
